TiEcon Delhi-NCR 2025, India's largest deeptech summit, set the tone for one of the nation’s most significant science and technology developments — the launch of the ₹1 lakh crore Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Fund by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Emerging Science and Technology Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025.

At the two-day TiEcon Delhi-NCR, a keynote fireside conversation titled “Quantum Leap: Accelerating India’s Tech Sovereignty” brought together Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science & Technology (DST- GOI), and Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Chairman Emeritus, TiE Delhi-NCR. The discussion highlighted India’s focus on strengthening deep-tech capabilities through collaborative R&D, private sector participation, and startup-led innovation - a vision that aligns closely with the objectives of the newly launched RDI Fund.

The Research, Development and Innovation Fund is a first-of-its-kind initiative to empower corporates, industries, and startups across sunrise sectors such as quantum, AI, semiconductors, biotech, and advanced manufacturing. With liberalized norms and a two-tier fund management model, it aims to catalyse private sector R&D, promote IP creation within India, and strengthen our path toward technological sovereignty. The government’s role is to enable, not control - fostering risk-taking and long-term R&D investment that builds India’s innovation strength.”

The highlight of the opening day was the Grand Keynote by Shri Piyush Goyal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Commerce and Industries, Government of India, where he outlined Government’s Vision for Building a Vibrant Deeptech Ecosystem Driven by Innovation and Youth Engagement. He observed that India’s digital journey has been integral to its economic rise, from becoming the world’s fourth-largest economy to being on track to reach the third position within two years, and achieving the vision of a USD 30–32 trillion economy by 2047. He stated that the foundation of India’s growth rests on the power of technology and innovation.

Over the last decade, India’s remarkable digital transformation has created unprecedented possibilities for the millions of Indians from the bottom-of-the-pyramid to millions of our innovators. Programmes like the Jan Dhan bank accounts, Aadhaar identity, Direct Benefit Transfer, the growth of the UPI payments ecosystem, expansion of 4G networks and now 5G across the country, all these have shifted India from coverage to access, from access to usage, from usage to outcomes.As we move towards becoming a global engine of deep-tech innovation, through AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, emerging technologies, the entire ecosystem of talent, institutions, investment, start-ups is aligning with this vision. A series of fireside chats and keynotes followed, including “Quantum Leap: Accelerating India’s Tech Sovereignty” with Dr. Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, DST, and Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Chairman Emeritus, TiE Delhi-NCR, and “How India Can Win the Global AI Race” featuring Abhishek Singh, Additional Secretary, MeitY, and Sanjeev Bikhchandani, Founder, Info Edge.

Engaging sessions such as ‘AI Unlocked: Innovation, Scale & Competitiveness’ and ‘Deeptech on the Move: AI Innovations Powering Mobility 2.0’, powered by MG Motor, further reflected the vibrancy and depth of India’s Deeptech ecosystem, emphasizing the collective efforts of government, investors, and entrepreneurs in shaping a future-ready innovation economy.

In another key highlight, TiE Delhi-NCR announced the launch of the DeepScale India Accelerator Program at TiEcon Delhi-NCR 2025, a national initiative designed to fast-track the commercialization and scaling up of MVP-ready DeepTech startups. Supported by SIDBI as the Investment Partner, DST as the Ecosystem Partner, and AWS as the Technical Partner, the program will empower early-stage innovators across AI, robotics, quantum, biotech, spacetech, and semiconductors through mentorship, funding access, and masterclasses, culminating in a Demo Day at the TechSwaraj DeepTech Summit 2026.
Alongside the accelerator, TiE Delhi-NCR also introduced Lab2Scale, a DeepTech bridge designed to move TRL 4–7 research from proof-of-concept to pilots and commercialization. The Lab2Scale session at TiEcon featured rapid 5-minute pitches by select innovators, followed by curated Founder–Industry Huddles that enabled pilot discussions, partnerships, and opportunities for technology validation.

EndureAir Systems, a deep-tech UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) company & aerial robotic solutions provider, has raised ₹25 crores from IAN Alpha Fund (along with IAN Angel Fund). The capital will be deployed to strengthen EndureAir’s deep-tech drone capabilities for the defense ecosystem, expand into enterprise markets, and advance the development of next-generation high-altitude logistics and aerial robotics platforms.

Founded in 2018 by Dr. Abhishek, Professor of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Kanpur, along with his former students Rama Krishna and Chirag Jain, EndureAir has rapidly emerged as a pioneer in India’s indigenous UAV sector. Unlike drone assemblers, the company develops both hardware and software entirely in-house, backed by more than 15 years of rotorcraft research and a portfolio of 8 patents. This research-driven approach gives EndureAir a strong edge in building rugged and mission-ready UAVs tailored for India’s terrain.EndureAir’s flagship platforms are already in active deployment. Sabal, its heavy-lift logistics UAV family (10–70 kg payloads), has proven high-altitude capabilities, with Sabal (20 kg) inducted by the Indian Army’s Eastern Command. Vibhram, its long-endurance UAV, powered Telangana’s Medicine from the Sky program by delivering vaccines to remote areas. EndureAir is also co-developing high-altitude logistics drones with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) and working with Druk Holding & Investments group (DHI) in Bhutan on pilot logistics missions to remote monasteries.

Scindia, on Thursday, inaugurated the VTU-VRIF-TCOE Hub and Spoke Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, a major milestone in India’s mission to accelerate innovation across emerging technologies.

The Centre is the result of a strategic collaboration between Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Visvesvaraya Research and Innovation Foundation (VRIF), and Telecom Centres of Excellence (TCOE) India, forming an academic-industrial powerhouse focused on future-forward domains including 5G/6G communications, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), quantum computing, and healthcare technologies.

“In the last 11 years, PM Modi has fundamentally redefined the role of government—from a regulator to a facilitator,” said Minister Scindia. “This Centre is a direct extension of that transformation.”

Bengaluru-based deep tech startup Maieutic Semiconductor has raised USD 4.15 Million in Seed funding, co-led by Endiya Partners and Exfinity Venture Partners. This funding round marks a significant milestone in Maieutic’s mission to reimagine chip design by introducing generative AI to design and development workflows.

Maieutic is tackling one of the most complex and underserved challenges in semiconductor design. Their GenAI-first solution will significantly accelerate early-stage chip design, domain expert review process, and enable intelligent analysis of design trade-offs, all of which are typically time-consuming and resource-intensive. With this new round of funding, Maieutic plans to expand its engineering team and significantly improve time to market. The company is on an aggressive hiring trajectory to build out its platform and take its vision to market.

Founded by serial entrepreneurs and industry veterans, Maieutic’s core team includes Gireesh Rajendran (CEO), Ashish Lachhwani (CBO), Rakesh Kumar (CPO), and Krishna Sankar (CTO), each a domain expert with over two decades of experience in semiconductor design, AI systems, and commercial product delivery. Collectively, the team holds over 70 patents and has shipped products that have sold over a billion units globally.

Astrophel Aerospace, a Pune-based deep-tech space startup, has raised INR 6.84 Crore (USD 800,000) in a pre-seed funding round led by a consortium of individuals and angel venture firms. The funds will be deployed to develop a reusable semi-cryogenic launch vehicle, scale its in-house R&D to develop missile-grade guidance systems and components. The company anticipates having a working, reusable prototype ready for testing within the next 24 to 36 months. 

The funding has been raised on the cusp of the landmark Gaganyaan, Axiom-4, and Space Activities Bill, poised to open the floodgates for private innovation in space technologies. Astrophel Aerospace is one of only a handful of indigenous private startups to have successfully test-fired a semi-cryogenic engine. The milestone was achieved by spending a mere INR 6 Lakh (USD 7,000) and zero external funding before the current round. 

Astrophel Aerospace is leveraging a modular, systems-first approach inspired by auto manufacturing best practices to build its Potentia C1U engine. It has also signed an MoU with ISRO for collaborative R&D and testing campaigns. India’s space economy is expected to grow from USD 8.4 billion in 2022 to USD 44 billion by 2033, with over 8,500 small satellites forecast to be launched globally within this decade, as per IN-SPACe.

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur’s C3iHub has been upgraded to a Technology Translational Research Park (TTRP) by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. Among the selected institutions, C3iHub has been designated to host one of these prestigious TTRPs, with a dedicated focus on cybersecurity.

The TTRP at IIT Kanpur will specifically focus on advancing cybersecurity technologies and supporting deep-tech startups while promoting strong industry-academia partnerships. After a thorough examination of the proposal from IIT Kanpur, the Mission Governing Board of NM-ICPS has selected C3iHub for upgradation to TTRP under NM-ICPS in the focus area of “Cybersecurity”.

Innovate in Tamil Nadu (IN2TN) is our new mantra. It is more than just a slogan; it is a strategic call to action. It encapsulates our commitment to fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship in the State,” Dr. Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said. Innovation and startups are pivotal to realizing our Hon’ble Chief Minister’s ambitious vision of propelling Tamil Nadu towards a trillion-dollar economy.

To support this journey, that State is in the process of drafting the Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Policy – the first of its kind in the country, he added. Stating that industries can play a crucial role in shaping the future of innovation in Tamil Nadu, he urged industries to industry partners to deepen their engagement with iTNT Hub through strategic partnerships and CSR contributions.

The hon’ble minister also gave away cheques for cash prizes to the tune of Rs. 4.5 Lakh to the winners of the top three places of the iTNT “Unlock The Future Innovation Challenge”. The challenge attracted more than 500 teams of startups, innovators and aspirants from the emerging and deep tech space across the State. The applications were scrutinised by a panel of subject matter and industry experts and the top 10 teams pitched before an expert jury after a series of training sessions.

Healthcare startup Vyuhaa Med Data won the prize for their solution on AI & IoT for Real-time Data Analysis and Decision Making. Sustainability startup Daijo won the prize for their solution on Resource Consumption Reduction, while Climate Tech startup Climatequant Tech emerged winner for their Supply Chain Transparency & Efficiency solution. “We have chalked out a strategy to take these winning solutions into deep tech enterprises,” said Additional Chief Secretary - IT&DS Department, Thiru. Kumar Jayant, I.A.S.

Earlier that evening, a curtain-raiser roundtable on the “Tamil Nadu Deep Tech Policy” was chaired by Thiru. Kumar Jayant, I.A.S., Additional Chief Secretary to Government, IT&DS Department, and co-chaired by Ms. Vanitha Venugopal, CEO of iTNT Hub. Industry and subject matter experts from the deep tech sectors participated in the discussion for the policy that was announced by the Hon’ble Minister for IT&DS at the Demand for Grants session in the assembly in June.

SAMRIDHI Conclave, a deeptech startup acceleration drive inaugurated at IIT Ropar

IIT Ropar has announced the launch of SAMRIDHI, a Deeptech Startup Accelerator Program. SAMRIDHI, is a Holistic Initiative for ICPS Startups, focusing on the transformative domains of agriculture and water.

The Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Mr. Banwarilal Purohit, inaugurated a Deeptech Startup Accelerator Program dedicated to catalyzing innovation in agriculture and water technology called SAMRIDHI (Strategic Acceleration for Market, Research, Innovation & Development: a Holistic Initiative for ICPS Startups) hosted by iHub AwaDH, a Technology and Innovation Hubs set up UNDER National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM-ICPS).

The SAMRIDHI conclave in which five strategic collaborations were formalized, featured five deep-tech innovations. A total of 13 startups shortlisted through rigorous evaluation, presented their ideas while 25 startups showcased their solutions at the exhibition. More than 30 experts spoke on strategic acceleration for market research, innovation, and development.

Dr Akhilesh Gupta, Secretary of the Science and Engineering Research Board; Senior Adviser, DST, GoI, reinforced the efforts taken by the NMICPS to orchestrate the Technology Self-reliant Atmanirbhar Bharat. Mission Director of NM on ICPS Dr Ekta Kapoor, projected the key highlights of the mission leading to CPS technology interventions across sectors such as agriculture infrastructure health, defence, and environment.

Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, Director of IIT Ropar, Prof. Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor of Panjab University, Chandigarh, Dr Pushpendra Pal Singh, Project Director, AwaDH and Mr. Amitabh Nag, CEO of Bhashini Digital India were also present on the ocassion. The event emphasized DST's pivotal role in shaping the future of technology in the region through NMICPS. The Mission has led to the generation of 311 technologies, 549 technology products and created 1613 CPS research bases and contributed to more than 60000 cps skilling.

The conclave organised by IIT Ropar’s Technology and Innovation Hub AwaDH was supported by 46 investment partners, and over 50 jury members evaluated and mentored the startups. Over 110 partners nationwide actively contributed to driving innovation and fostering technological self-reliance. The program is executed with the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India, under the National Mission on Interdisciplinary Cyber-Physical Systems (NM – ICPS), reinforcing DST's commitment to advancing technology and innovation.

Selected start-ups in the fourth cohort of the successful ASTRA program will be evaluated for mentorship and possible collaboration with Applied Materials, helping them reach their growth potential

Applied Ventures, LLC, the venture capital arm of Applied Materials, Inc., along with Applied Materials India Private Limited, selected seven deeptech startups during the fourth cohort of its start-up engagement program - ASTRA (Applied Startup Technology & Research Accelerator) in Bengaluru. ASTRA aims to collaborate with start-ups and transform disruptive possibilities into reality.

Based in India and Singapore the selected startups during ASTRA 2023 include Lightspeed Photonics, Portkey, Sungreen H2, Exposome, OIP Technologies, App Sentinels, and Ethereal Machines.

Chosen from a pool of 50+ outstanding applications, the selected start-ups pitched their business proposals to Applied Materials executives and industry leaders during the event. The start-ups were then evaluated based on criteria such as Fit to Applied Technology and Business, High-Value Problems Addressed, Differentiation from Existing Market Solutions and Business Models, and Growth Potential.
