Cognizant Launches World’s Largest Generative AI Hackathon with 250,000 Employees, Eyes GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title
  • Cognizant is pursuing a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title attempt for most participants in an online generative AI hackathon
Cognizant (NASDAQ: CTSH) today announced it is attempting the largest global vibe coding event, with more than 250,000 employees – from HR and sales to engineering and marketing – registered to start developing ideas and embracing a new era of AI programming. To validate and celebrate the scale of this event, Cognizant is attempting a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for most participants in an online generative AI hackathon, a category that closely mirrors the structure and approach of its vibe coding event.

In the second quarter of this year, AI-generated code developed in collaboration with Cognizant employees increased to nearly 30 percent. Cognizant's vibe coding event kicks off today and will last a week, aiming to capitalize on an important inflection point: as AI-enabled coding increases, human labor is being reimagined, and every employee can play a role in this transformation. In 2023, Cognizant made a $1 billion bet to invest in AI across three years, and since then the company has focused on harnessing the productivity gains of AI to foster high value engagement from talent.

"We're thrilled to be attempting the first and largest vibe coding event, a groundbreaking initiative that underscores our commitment to advancing AI literacy across talent, no matter the technical skill," said Ravi Kumar S., CEO of Cognizant. "Historically, there's been a significant divide between those who had access to technology and those who didn't – but now, technology has been diffused into the hands of people who don't need deep digital skills to access it. This leveling of the playing field is enabling us to unleash new value in the workplace, driving innovation and progress across all backgrounds and expertise."

To support a range of technical and non-technical understanding across more than 330,000 employees, Cognizant partnered with leading vibe coding platforms including Lovable, Windsurf, Cursor, Gemini Code Assist, and GitHub Copilot. Upon registration, employees could select which platform to use based on their skill level. Additionally, to speed the rollout of an intuitive and comprehensive resource for employees, Cognizant vibe coded its own internal online hub within a month leading up to the event -- featuring registration, curated learning resources, step-by-step tutorials, and streamlined project submission processes.

"The age of AI has opened incredible opportunities. With Lovable, anyone, not just coders, can turn ideas into reality, instantly creating apps and websites by just talking to AI. This democratization of technology is not just about individual empowerment; it's about driving creativity, innovation, and productivity that was previously unimaginable," said Anton Oskia, CEO and Co-Founder of Lovable. "We're thrilled to support Cognizant's inaugural Vibe Coding Week. Together, we're enabling a new generation of creators and problem-solvers to build anything and along the way, shape a better future."

Cognizant's vibe coding event aims to engage thousands of employees by featuring hands-on workshops, a prompt engineering toolkit, best-practice sessions, an innovation competition, and recognition for outstanding projects. Following the week's end, participants can join the Cognizant Global Vibe Coding Community to continue sharing ideas and advancing solutions within the company and for clients.

"At Windsurf, we've seen firsthand how agentic AI can expand who gets to build software, from developers to designers, analysts, and operators," said Jeff Wang, CEO of Windsurf. "We're proud to partner with Cognizant on Vibe Coding Week and bring that vision to life at a massive scale. This isn't just about AI literacy, it's about unleashing a new kind of creativity across entire teams and diverse backgrounds."

In recent years, Cognizant has committed to advancing AI-powered ingenuity across its talent base. In 2023, the company launched Bluebolt, a grassroots innovation initiative that encourages ideation from all employees. To date, employees have shared more than a half million (528,505) ideas through the Bluebolt innovation platform. Of the ideas shared, more than 80,000 have already been implemented with clients. Additionally, to create a talent pool with the right skills to harness the innovation potential of AI, Cognizant introduced a global training initiative called Synapse, which aims to upskill one million people by 2026.

Ministry Announces Tomato Grand Challenge Hackathon

Ministry Announces Tomato Grand Challenge Hackathon
Government announces Tomato Grand Challenge Hackathon to generate innovative ideas to enhance Tomato value chain and ensure its availability at affordable prices.

Students, Research Scholars, Faculty Members, Industry, Start-ups, MSMEs, LLPs, and Professionals urged to participate in the Hackathon.

Tomato Grand Challenge (TGC) Hackathon has been announced by the Secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Mr. Rohit Kumar Singh, to invite innovative ideas at various levels of the tomato value chain to ensure availability of tomato to the consumers at affordable prices and help tomato farmers get value for the produce.

India is the second largest producer of Tomatoes in the world and studies estimates that about 20-22% of fresh tomatoes and 5% of processed tomatoes are wasted every year. Moreover, Tomatoes are highly susceptible to price volatility as slight disruptions in supply chain or damage due to heavy rains leads to spike in prices.

The prices of tomatoes can be brought back to normal levels by improving storage and processing. To ensure prices remain stable, innovation at the seed level, primary storage, post-harvest and crop information is necessary and this hackathon is announced for the public to share ideas for reducing tomato prices that have currently skyrocketed in several cities across the country.

The Hackathon has been formulated by the Department of Consumer Affairs in collaboration with Ministry of Education (Innovation Cell).

The Grand Challenge invites ideas on comprehensive and focused area interventions in tomato value chain - from cropping and market insights for the farmers, appropriate cultivars (OP varieties or hybrids) with higher shelf-life of the fruits for fresh marker, cultivars specifically suitable for processing, value-addition through interventions that can increase shelf-life, improve transportation of fresh and processing products, innovative packaging and storage.

The entry of participants for the TGC are invited under two tracks, namely —
  1. Students, Research Scholars
  2. Faculty Members, Industry individuals, Indian start-ups, Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Limited Liability Partnership (LLPs), Professionals.
The winning ideas will be evaluated by Experts followed by prototype development and field implementation for ensuring its usability/scalability on a large scale and price of the product.

Interested participants can apply at –https://doca.gov.in/gtc/index.php

Tomato is produced almost in all the states in India, though in varying quantities. Maximum production is in southern and western regions of India, contributing 56%-58% of all India production. Southern and Western regions being surplus states, feed to other markets depending on production seasons.

The production seasons are also different across regions. The peak harvesting season occurred in December to February. The periods during July-August and October-November are the lean production months of tomato. July coinciding with monsoon season, adds to further challenges related to distribution and increased transit losses adding to price rise.

The cycle of planting and harvesting seasons and variation across regions are primarily responsible for price seasonality in Tomato. Apart from the normal price seasonality, temporary supply chain disruptions and crop damage due to adverse weather conditions etc. often led to sudden spikes in prices. Conversely, glut in the production of at local levels have also led to dip in prices causing huge loss to the farmers.

Tapas Launches School Campus Redesign Hackathon ‘Jaga’ to Make Classrooms Flexible and Conducive to Learning

The participants will also get a chance to attend Tapas Masterclass on space planning.

Tapas
Bangalore-based 100% project-based learning school Tapas has launched India’s first school campus redesign hackathon ‘Jaga’ to make classrooms more flexible and conducive to learning for children. Moving away from the traditional cookie-cutter approach to designing classrooms, the unique initiative focuses on initiating dialogues and coming up with new ideas to foster better student-teacher relationships and engaging learning environments in schools. Tapas School has invited entries for this hackathon and participants will also get a chance to attend a Tapas Masterclass on space planning.

Talking about this initiative, Tapas School’s spokesperson said," Traditionally, schools have relied on the ‘cookie-cutter’ or ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to design and plan their classrooms without paying enough attention to individual differences. This has resulted in teacher-centric classrooms which do not encourage collaboration amongst learners. They are rigid and don't offer flexibility. Jaga is our attempt to create engaging learning environments in classrooms with more attention to space planning and design. We believe this allows learners to make choices, experiment with new techniques and learn the best. Additionally, flexible classrooms will also support teachers with greater capacity to respond to individual needs and discover effective ways of teaching."

The hackathon will be conducted in 5 stages:

i) sending in the ideas,
ii) shortlisting of ideas,
iii) presentation to the jury,
iv) final selection of entries to be featured in the book,
v) release of a book documenting the entire hackathon and the final ideas.

The initial set of participating entries will be judged and shortlisted based on parameters set by Tapas. The shortlisted participants will present their ideas before the jury members. The shortlisted entries will be translated into an implementable design idea by a team of reputed architects. The jury includes seasoned professionals from the field of education, architecture, space planning, psychology, and design.

The full list of jurors is as follows:
  • Neha Cadabam (Executive Director - Cadabam Group),
  • Dr. Swati Popat Vats (President - Podar Education Network),
  • Preethi Vickram (Founder - Tapas School),
  • Devishobha (Founder, Kidskintha),
  • Harish Srinivasan (Co-founder and learning experience designer - Infinite Engineers),
  • Dr. Tirka Widanti (Rector - Universitas Ngurah Rai, President - Yayasan Kul Kul Green school),
  • Francis Joseph (Director - SLN School Leaders Network Foundation),
  • Amrita Burman (Deputy Director - Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions),
  • Sarvesh Srinivasan (Educator and Architect, GEAR International School),
  • Kathryn Cogan (K-12 Studio Leader - CHA Architecture),
  • Ar. Krishna Murthy (Architect - De Sara Architects).
After presentation to the jury, the final shortlist of entries will be featured in the book to be released by Tapas School. The jury members will also participate in a panel discussion about Jaga. The panel discussion will act as a platform for the jurors to discuss their take on the entire exercise and their rationale behind the final selections.

Tapas School will be partnering with like-minded peer organisations for strategic outreach and subject-matter expertise. The partner organisations include ECA APER, All About Architecture, Kidskintha, Daily Hunt, Sunbeam Group of Educational Institutions, JoGenii, Jumpstart Preschool chain, Mindful Gurukul, FloMont World School, Somaiya School, Kidlet, Fairkraft Creations, and Infinite Engineers.

Jaga is one of the many efforts made by Tapas School to make learning meaningful, enjoyable, and relevant for students.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India -TechGig Launch A Nationwide Hackathon To Create World Free of Violence

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India -TechGig Launch A Nationwide Hackathon To Create World Free of Violence

Gender-based violence (GBV) is one of the most prevalent human rights violations in the world. It knows no social, economic or national boundaries. Worldwide, an estimated 1 in 3 women has experienced physical or sexual abuse in their lifetime. The most recent data from National Family Health Survey (NHFS-5) also reported that around 29.3% of married Indian women between the ages of 18-49 years have faced domestic violence/ or sexual violence.

The risk of and vulnerability to GBV increases on account of intersections of gender with sexual orientation, disability, caste, and age. Similarly, GBV risks are known to increase during humanitarian crises such as public health emergencies, natural calamities and conflicts. Today, with the increased use and reliance on technology and digital spaces, we also see the emergence of newer forms of GBV where harm is perpetrated through online spaces. Clearly, GBV is all pervasive and addressing it in all its forms with a particular focus on those with increased vulnerabilities is no longer negotiable.

Leading a life free from violence is a fundamental human right - and one that is critical to advance the realization of other human rights.

The imperative action to address and end GBV is of utmost importance to the Government of India with a focus on establishing One Stop Centres (OSCs) across states for those who are in distress and survivors of violence to avail counseling, medico-legal support and support from police all under one roof. To further strengthen these efforts, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) India - in association with India’s biggest technology community, TechGig - launched a Hackathon - Crack the Code to Prevent and Address Gender-Based Violence

This hackathon aims to address key problems, knowledge gaps and increase access to services for persons with disabilities experiencing GBV; facilitating anonymous, safe and timely access to those at risk of GBV in humanitarian situations; and mitigating technology facilitated GBV.

The hackathon will crowdsource impactful and innovative ideas and turn them into prototypes for scaling up. The program has three phases: Phase 1 for relevant idea submissions, Phase 2 for selection and mentoring of ideas for prototyping and lastly, Phase 3 to announce the winners.

“Effectively responding to Gender-Based Violence requires convergence of great minds, innovative thinking and multi-sectoral partnerships. UNFPA is excited to launch its first hackathon in India to invite solutions to address GBV. The aim is to discover and deploy effective prevention and response mechanisms for newer forms of GBV, as well as recognize and respond to heightened risks and vulnerabilities among marginalized groups, including during crises" said Andrea Wojnar, Resident Representative, UNFPA India.

This hackathon invites individuals, women-led teams, techpreneurs, civil societies, startups, research groups, and people with diverse lived experiences to submit ideas and solutions to make public spaces, workplaces, homes, and society equal, equitable and inclusive.

“TechGig is proud to partner with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in their crucial mission to #EndGBVForAll. I urge everyone to participate in this hackathon and share your innovative solutions - big and small - to make our world free of violence,” said Sanjay Goyal, Business Head, TechGig.

Registrations are free and open for everyone at https://www.techgig.com/hackathon/crack-the-code-to-prevent-and-address-gbv.
