L&T, GA-ASI to Manufacture Combat-Proven Drones in India Under Atmanirbhar Bharat Push

L&T and the US-headquartered General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) have entered into a strategic partnership to manufacture Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) in India, for the Indian armed forces.

GA-ASI, a global leader in advanced unmanned aerial systems, brings decades of operational expertise; L&T brings extensive engineering, precision manufacturing and system integration capabilities in defence and aerospace.

L&T and GA-ASI together will deliver the combat-proven MALE RPAS platforms, manufactured entirely in India. This programme incorporates critical technology transfers and fulfilling indigenous content requirements aligned with Government of India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India initiatives.

Under this partnership, L&T will participate in the upcoming 87 MALE RPAS programme of the Ministry of Defence, where L&T will be the prime bidder and GA-ASI the technology partner. The collaboration will enable the production of GA-ASI’s MQ-series RPAS that are combat proven. These are widely operational across the globe with millions of flight hours in surveillance and strike missions.

The partnership marks a significant milestone in India’s pursuit of a self-reliant defence ecosystem, strengthening Indo-US defence collaboration and fostering a competitive, globally integrated aerospace manufacturing base.

ACWA Power and L&T Unite for Saudi’s Yanbu Green Hydrogen Megaproject

In a important step toward advancing Saudi Arabia’s clean energy ambitions, Saudi Arabia based ACWA Power and India's Larsen & Toubro (L&T) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the renewables and grid infrastructure for the Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub, one of the world’s largest green ammonia projects.

ACWA Power is a key player in Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, driving large-scale renewable energy projects and green hydrogen initiatives. It often partners with global firms and sovereign entities to deliver sustainable infrastructure at scale.

The agreement was formalized between ACWA Power and L&T’s Renewables arm (RENU), outlining joint development of critical components including solar photovoltaic systems, wind energy installations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and high-voltage substations and transmission lines.

A Catalyst for Global Decarbonization

The Yanbu Green Hydrogen Hub is designed as a fully integrated facility powered entirely by renewable energy, aligning with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and its commitment to global climate goals. Once operational, the hub will produce green ammonia for export, supporting international decarbonization efforts.

This project underscores Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the global energy transition,” said Marco Arcelli, CEO of ACWA Power. “We are proud to partner with L&T to deliver a facility that will help countries meet their net-zero targets.”

T Madhava Das, Whole-Time Director and Senior Executive Vice President at L&T, emphasized the strategic importance of the region: “Saudi Arabia’s competitive renewable energy landscape and its geographic advantage along the India–Middle East–Europe corridor make it a pivotal player in the clean energy economy.”

Next Steps: Toward EPC Execution

Following the MoU, L&T is expected to enter into an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract, subject to final proposal approvals. The collaboration marks a deepening of ties between Indian and Saudi energy stakeholders, reinforcing regional cooperation in sustainable infrastructure.

L&T Ships First Steam Generator for Haryana Nuclear Power Plant Ahead of Schedule

Marking yet another milestone in India’s civil nuclear energy programme, L&T Heavy Engineering has despatched a Steam Generator to the Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP), located in Fatehabad district, Haryana.

The Steam Generator was ceremonially flagged off from L&T’s state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Hazira in Gujarat, in the presence of NPCIL Chairman & Managing Director Mr Bhuwan Chandra Pathak, Director (Technical) Mr Rajesh Veeraraghavan along with other senior officials of NPCIL and L&T.

This is first of the four Steam Generators that L&T is manufacturing for GHAVP and is meant for its Unit 3 & 4. Notably, the Steam Generator has been despatched seven months ahead of schedule, reinforcing L&T’s reputation for excellence and reliability in nuclear manufacturing.

GHAVP 3&4 are a part of the ten indigenous 700 MWe Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs) being set up in the country in fleet mode by NPCIL.

In a firm step toward fulfilling its commitment made at the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, APM Terminals Pipavav has formalised two significant contracts to accelerate the construction of a dedicated liquid cargo jetty (Berth 6), solidifying its role in India’s maritime growth story.

APM Terminals Pipavav has signed a contract with L&T Geostructure Pvt. Ltd. for the construction of the new liquid jetty and related marine infrastructure. In parallel, Van Oord India Pvt. Ltd. has been engaged for capital dredging and reclamation works essential to the project’s execution.

The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Shri Rajkumar Beniwal, IAS, Vice Chairman & CEO of the Gujarat Maritime Board, at GIFT City, Gandhinagar, emphasizing the State’s continued support for port-led development and infrastructure expansion.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Girish Aggarwal, Managing Director, APM Terminals Pipavav, said, “APM Terminals Pipavav remains committed to the Gujarat, its people, and its progress. APM Terminals Pipavav is one of India’s leading gateway ports for containers, dry bulk cargoes, liquid bulk, and RoRo with excellent connectivity to the India’s northwest hinterland through rail and road network. The current annual cargo handling capacity includes 1.35 million TEUs of containers, 4 million metric tons of dry bulk, with a dedicated liquid berth coming up the capacity will be increased to 5.2 million metric tons of liquid bulk and 250,000 passenger cars. APM Terminals Pipavav is India’s first public private partnership (PPP) port and the first port to be connected to the DFC in India and is a part of the APM Terminals global terminal network.

L&T Finance Posts Rs. 701 Cr PAT in Q1 FY26; Retail Book Hits ₹99,816 Cr, Exceeds Lakshya 2026 Goal

L&T Finance Ltd. (LTF), one of the leading Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) in India has recorded consolidated Profit After Tax (PAT) of Rs. 701 Crore, up 10% QoQ and 2% YoY for the first quarter ended June 30, 2025. During the quarter, LTF achieved a milestone of highest-ever consolidated book of Rs. 1,02,314 Crore, up 15% YoY. The retail book size during the quarter reached Rs. 99,816 Crore, up 18% YoY. The Company has recorded quarterly retail disbursement of Rs. 17,522 Crore for the first quarter ended June 30, 2025, up 18% YoY. Retailisation stood at 98% for the quarter ended June 30, 2025, exceeding Lakshya 2026 target.

Debut Investment Grade Credit Rating has been assigned to LTF by international rating agencies (S&P Global Ratings and Fitch Ratings). S&P Global Ratings has assigned LTF “BBB-” long-term and “A-3” short-term issuer credit rating. The outlook on the long-term rating is Positive. Fitch Ratings has assigned LTF long-term foreign and local currency Issuer Default Ratings (IDR) of “BBB-” with a Stable outlook. These long-term ratings are investment grade and are at par with India’s Sovereign Credit Rating. This will enable the Company to tap global capital markets and further diversify its liability franchise and deepen investor base.

‘Project Cyclops’, in-house developed proprietary credit underwriting engine by LTF, has been rolled-out for SME Finance and its advanced version is implemented in Two-wheeler Finance.

The Company’s customer-facing PLANET app, which has emerged as a powerful digital channel for customers, crossed more than 1.86 Crore downloads as on date, comprising more than 16.7 Lakh downloads on the rural side. As of date, this channel has done collections of over Rs. 4,800 Crore while servicing around 7.85 Crore requests and has sourced loans of over Rs. 15,500 Crore. The Company has launched a revamped customer-centric website and the next-generation PLANET 3.0.

Our AI-driven next-gen digital credit engine, ‘Project Cyclops’ is starting to yield early dividends in our Two-wheeler finance business, and during the quarter, ‘Project Cyclops’ was scaled up in Farm business and launched in the SME finance business. We remain focused on continuously strengthening our risk and credit frameworks, which will serve us well in times to come.”

The Water & Effluent Treatment (WET) business vertical of L&T has secured significant orders from the Public Health Engineering Department of Rajasthan.

It has won an EPC order for the Rajasthan Rural Water Supply and Fluorosis Mitigation Project – Phase II, Package-1. The scope encompasses supply & installation of 5,251-km transmission and distribution pipelines, construction of 38 ground level reservoirs with an aggregate capacity of 40 ML, 20 pump houses and 132 overhead service reservoirs with an aggregate capacity of 25 ML.

According to the company’s classification of projects, the value of the order is between ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 crores.

The project is aimed at meeting the demand for water in 285 villages and the towns of Surajgarh and Udaipurwati in Jhunjhunu district.

Another project won by the business vertical pertains to strengthening and rehabilitation of the water supply system on the Kekri-Sarwar sector in Ajmer district. The scope of the project includes the supply & installation of 43-km transmission pipelines.

Associated electromechanical, instrumentation, automation and SCADA works, 1 year defects liability period and 10 years operations & maintenance are also in the scope of both the projects.

These repeat orders is a testament to L&T’s capabilities in the execution of water infrastructure projects. L&T has so far delivered 24 such water projects alone in Rajasthan.

To revolutionise the quantum computing landscape globally, L&T-Cloudfiniti has forged a strategic partnership with Bengaluru-based deep-tech company QpiAI. The collaboration will focus on driving quantum computing workloads, including Quantum Computing as a Service (QCAAS), enabling scalable deployment of quantum solutions across domains.

L&T-Cloudfiniti and QpiAI will explore collaborative opportunities under India’s National Quantum Mission. QpiAI is the company that has built Indus, India's most powerful 25-qubit quantum computer. Going forward, they will offer 256-qubit quantum computer, followed by a fault-tolerant quantum computer with 100 logical qubits, thus opening up large-scale commercial applications.

Combining L&T’s industry leadership with QpiAI’s technical capabilities, the two companies will initiate and execute joint R&D programmes focussed on next-generation solutions at the intersection of artificial intelligence and quantum computing. This will lead to the development of innovative solutions that address complex challenges across domains, including finance, healthcare, logistics and more.

L&T Achieves Breakthrough in India’s Longest Rail Tunnel on Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Rail Line

Larsen & Toubro has achieved the breakthrough in India’s longest railway tunnel – the 14.57 km Tunnel No. 8 – on the 125-km Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Broad Gauge Rail Link Project of Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). Tunnel No. 8 stretches between Devprayag and Janasu in Uttarakhand.

The breakthrough was achieved using a state-of-the-art Single-Shield Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) named Shakti, of 9.11m diameter, which is also the largest TBM to be deployed in the Himalayan region. Excavating at an average rate of 413 meters per month, 10.4 km of the tunnel was completed with TBM. The New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM) was used to complete the remaining 4.11 km of the tunnel.

Celebrating the milestone, Union Railway Minister Mr Ashwini Vaishnaw, in the presence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Mr Pushkar Singh Dhami, described the achievement as “a testament to India’s engineering strength and the commitment to enhancing railway infrastructure in even the most difficult terrains.”

Chief Minister Mr Dhami highlighted the tunnel’s potential to revolutionise Uttarakhand’s socio-economic landscape by enhancing connectivity to remote areas, boosting tourism and economic growth.

"This significant breakthrough in one of the most challenging terrains, reflects our commitment and strong collaboration between our client RVNL," said Mr S V Desai, Whole- Time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Civil Infrastructure), L&T. "This milestone fosters a deep sense of collective achievement within our team, proving that with dedication and innovation, no challenge is insurmountable."

L&T’s role in RVNL’s 125-km Rishikesh-Karnaprayag Railway Line project which connects Rishikesh, Devprayag, Srinagar, Rudraprayag, Gauchar, and Karnaprayag across five Himalayan districts, cutting travel time from seven hours to two and supporting the Char Dham Yatra, covers Packages 2 and 4.

In Package 4, L&T is building India’s longest railway tunnel (14.5-km upline, 13.1-km downline). Package 2 includes 26.6 km of tunnel excavation, 28 km of tunnel lining, two railway bridges, one road bridge, and embankments.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received a significant order to build Uzbekistan's first AI-enabled and sustainable 10-Megawatt data centre in Tashkent.

According to the company’s classification of projects, the value of the order is between ₹1,000 to ₹2,500 crores.

The project will set new standards for data centre infrastructure in the Uzbekistan region, combining cutting-edge technology with a strong commitment to sustainability.

L&T will be responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction of this new-age Data Centre equipped with advanced AI capabilities to power the next generation AI applications, minimise environmental impact and maximise energy efficiency. The data centre will be equipped with robust security measures to protect sensitive data using cutting-edge security technologies.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Monday launched the second Multi- Purpose Vessel (MPV) for the Indian Navy from its Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai.

The vessel, christened INS Utkarsh, was launched by Dr Sushmita Misra Singh, the wife of Union Defence Secretary Mr Rajesh Kumar Singh. Mr Singh, Vice Admiral B Sivakumar (Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition), Rear Admiral Vishal Bishnoi (Assistant Controller of Warship Production & Acquisition) and senior leaders of L&T were present.

Following an accelerated production schedule, the launch of INS Utkarsh comes within three months of the launch of the first MPV INS Samarthak. The first vessel is now being readied for undergoing tests and trials prior to its delivery to the Indian Navy.

The MPVs are highly specialised, and play multiple roles, including serving as trial platforms, for the development of next generation weapons and sensors. They will perform maritime surveillance, humanitarian assistance, combat sea pollution, besides taking up launch and recovery of surface and aerial assets, etc.

The MPVs are 107m long, 18.6m wide with a displacement over 3,750 tonnes. In keeping with Government of India’s Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission and Make in India initiative, the design engineering of the MPVs has been undertaken at L&T’s in-house Warship Design Centre at Chennai and the construction is accomplished at L&T’s Katupalli Shipyard.

L&T-Cloudfiniti, the Data Centre business initiative of Larsen & Toubro, has onboarded its first major customer at the state-of-the-art hyperscale data centre located in Sriperumbudur near Chennai.

Cloudfiniti’s Sriperumbudur Data Centre has a built-in capacity of 30 MW, and of this, 12 MW colocation-ready capacity is live across two floors. The client, a leading cloud service provider has rented as much as 6 MW IT Load capacity, consisting of high-density racks spread over an entire floor, and a bulk bandwidth, thus marking a major customer-win for Cloudfiniti at the very start.

The contract tenure, which is 10 years, underscores the trust the client has reposed on Cloudfiniti’s high-tech capabilities, cutting-edge infrastructure, and the strategic location of the data centre.

L&T Energy CarbonLite Solutions, a business vertical of Larsen & Toubro (L&T), has recently received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from NTPC Ltd for setting up thermal power plants in Madhya Pradesh and Bihar.

The orders pertain to main plant packages of 2x800 MW Stage-II thermal power plant at Gadarwara in Madhya Pradesh and 3x800 MW Stage-II thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Bihar.

The scope of work involves design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, erection and commissioning of boilers, turbines, electrostatic precipitators (ESP), auxiliaries, along with the related mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and civil works.

The orders pertain to main plant packages for a 2×800 MW Stage-ll thermal power plant at Gadarwara in Madhya Pradesh and a 3x800 MW Stage-ll thermal power plant at Nabinagar in Bihar.

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has announced it will acquire a 21% stake in E2E Networks for ₹1,407 crore. This strategic move aims to bolster L&T's presence in the rapidly expanding cloud and Al sectors.

The acquisition will be completed in two parts: a 15% stake via preferential allotment and an additional 6% through a secondary acquisition. L&T will invest ₹1,079.27 crore for a 15% stake through preferential allotment and ₹327.75 crore for an additional 6% stake through a secondary acquisition.

Post-acquisition, L&T will have the right to nominate up to two directors on E2E Networks' board, ensuring they have a say in the company's strategic direction.

Alongside the acquisition, L&T will enter into a software license agreement, reseller agreement, and colocation agreement with E2E Networks.

This partnership is expected to accelerate digital transformation across various industries in India by integrating E2E Networks' cloud and Al cloud platform with L&T's expertise in data center management and cloud solutions.

E2E Networks' shares surged by 5% following the announcement, reflecting positive market sentiment about the deal.

Post-acquisition, E2E Networks' promoters, Tarun Dua and Srishti Baweja, will still hold a significant stake in the company.

An Indian multinational conglomerate, which has been a key partner for the Indian space agency ISRO for over five decades, is exploring opportunities to contribute to NASA's successor to the International Space Station (ISS).

Mumbai, Maharashtra-headquartered Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has been a key player in powering ISRO's space missions for over five decades and is now looking to expand its reach to the international market. L&T is hopeful that Indian firms will play a role in the supply chain for America's next space station.

Vikas Khita, Vice President of L&T Precision Engineering and Systems, mentioned that while earlier talks with Blue Origin for supplying orbital launch capabilities and space habitat solutions faced challenges, remnants of those discussions are still ongoing, now involving NASA.

Khita told news agency PTI that L&T has been in discussions with Blue Origin, a Jeff Bezos's aerospace manufacturer, for supplying orbital launch capabilities and space habitat solutions.

Secured mandate to implement Energy Management Systems in South India

The Digital Energy Solutions (DES) arm of Larsen & Toubro’s Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business has received the mandate to develop and implement Energy Management Systems in regional and state load dispatch centers in South India. This order is the latest addition to such digitally based intelligent projects being executed by L&T DES globally.

Digital Energy Solutions (DES)

The Digital Energy Solutions arm of L&T’s Power Transmission & Distribution vertical is a specialized set-up of power system experts offering advanced grid services, energy consulting services and system integration solutions to speed up the digitalization of electric grid in India, Middle East and the USA.

Transmission & Distribution Management and Control

As part of the order in Southern India, Energy Management System and associated software systems will be implemented for 12 set of control rooms. These systems are being implemented for main and backup configurations for the Southern Regional Load Dispatch Centre (RLDC) and the State Load Dispatch Centers (SLDC) of Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. The integration and implementation of these systems will be carried out without causing any downtime for the existing system.

L&T DES will implement this upgradation of control rooms with power system applications supplied by the world’s leading OEM to monitor and control the energy flow in electricity transmission network in real time to ensure reliable and secure grid operations. The upgrade work will leverage L&T-Spark-CRIMTM (Control Room Integration Middleware) Platform to integrate substation data.

Through another recent mandate, L&T DES team will implement upgradation of power and transmission control room in the western United States, with one of the most complex configurations involving more than 15 EMS hosts, deploying advanced applications to monitor and control the energy flow in real-time. The scope includes design and implementation of power and transmission network operation situational awareness to assist operators and analysts to improve grid reliability.

L&T is already executing a slew of advanced grid modernization and digitalization orders in India, including the upgradation work in National and Regional Transmission Asset Management Centers consisting of 13 control rooms nation-wide integrating 270 EHV transmission substations.

On the Distribution Grid Management side, L&T DES is implementing advanced distribution management systems in Mumbai and Vadodara.

Renewable Integration and Control

L&T DES team implements L&T-Spark-HECSTM (Hybrid Energy Management and Control System) to monitor and control the renewable hybrid plant of 185 MW Solar cum 254 MWH energy storage capacity which L&T is executing in Bihar.

With fast evolving buildout of renewable hybrid plants, the business is engaged worldwide in providing Solar-Storage Power Plant Controller implementations for large renewable energy projects. Currently, L&T-Spark-PPCTM (Solar Power Plant Controller) has been powering 6 solar plants with multiple gigawatts of peak production capacity ensuring full regional grid compliance in India and Middle East regions.

In a recent milestone, 700 MW ArRass solar plant went live in production powered by L&T-Spark-PPCTM, monitoring and controlling 200+ solar inverters to meet the plant performance while honoring the real-time deployment signals from Saudi Electric Central Region Control Center (CRCC) assisting in reliable grid operation with advanced control functions including synthetic inertia.

In Puerto Rico, United States, L&T DES team has been working on an interconnection simulation study and Substation control engineering assignment involving 8 grid interactive renewable hybrid substations consisting of solar and storage. Upon the successful completion of engineering design phase for the first substation, L&T DES team in USA has been awarded to implement L&T-Spark-HECSTM (Hybrid Energy Management and Control System) thus providing end to end solution delivery from design to completion. The offered solution will be one of the first fully integrated implementations combining Solar, Energy Storage and Substation supervisory monitoring and control, from a single platform with full functional Historian and Hyper Local Energy Forecasting duly integrated with weather monitoring system.

L&T DES has established the technical team as a specialized set-up of world leading power system experts offering advanced grid services providing complete simulation study for renewable grid interconnection followed by grid interactive renewable hybrid substation engineering and control design.

Advanced Grid & Energy Innovation Services

L&T DES business in USA continues to be the center of excellence for providing advanced consulting services and research & development assignments for energy systems and grid. This includes resilience planning, feasibility assessment, simulation studies, bulk power decarbonization projects in United States.

L&T DES team will work on recently awarded grant projects, being carried out for partners under contract with California Energy Commission (CEC) and USA Department of Energy as part of the California Energy Commission (CEC) grant funding opportunity “GFO-20-305: California Community Microgrid - Reimagining Affordable Mixed-Use Development in a Carbon-Constrained Future”. The grant is aimed at building an all-electric, transit-integrated, affordable, and supportive community. Salient features of this demonstration include the first scaled bi-directional EV Charging in the USA and the first 95%-100% resilient apartment community in the world. Ultimately, this will serve as a new template for rapid utility interconnection to comply with SB 410, the Powering Up Californians Act aimed at speedier customer interconnections to the utility grid.

Hybrid Energy Network Operation Center

L&T DES business in USA is all set to provide turnkey solution for 300 MW Solar “Balancing Authority” services in western United States. Balancing Authority (BA) services enable renewable plant integration while meeting NERC (North Electric Reliability Council) criteria administered by regional reliability council for reliable operation of renewable asset and grid. These services will facilitate multiple monetary value streams by allowing energy transactions within and beyond the local utility jurisdiction, availing most optimum combination of trades and transactions while meeting NERC and WECC (Westen Electric Coordination Council) reliability compliance. The project will be delivered by the facility called HENOC (Hybrid Energy Network Operation Center) in Fairfield, California, USA. The facilities and personnel involved in the project have been certified by NERC.
